The appointment of new Governor General of New Zealand.

The role of the Governor General is one that is not to be taken lightly.  The Governor General is the Queen's vice-regal representative in New Zealand and is often viewed as the de facto head of state.

The current Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand ( sworned in on 23 August 2006), replacing Dame Silvia Cartwright is due to be succeeded by Lieutenant General Jeremiah Mateparae on 23 August 2011, having been appointed by the Queen of New Zealand on 7 March 2011, on the advice of the Prime Minister.

You see, Lieutenant General Mateparae is a descendant of the Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Kahungunu tribes.  While, Sir Anand Satyanand is New Zealand born but is of Indian descent.  This would not have occurred in Malaysia.  In Malaysia,  the very top government posts are held by the Malays who make up the majority of the population.  Now, I am not going to dwell into Malaysian politics, but I want to impress upon the readers the social and political climate in New Zealand which I believe is, if not the, one of the most admirable in the world.

Perhaps, this is the main reason why New Zealand is attracting many migrants from all over the world, to live with a very peaceful, tolerant, understanding, helpful, friendly, non-judgmental, non bias and non-racist society.
